There is no adoption fee but you must spay/neuter the animal and have the pet vaccinated against Rabies within 30 days of adoption. Dogs kept in Wise County must have a County Dog License.
- Adoption of dogs is open to residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, Russell and Dickenson County areas of Virginia.
- WCAS will allow dogs to be adopted if the adoption application is approved by WCDS and the Animal Control Officer in the county the animal will go to.
- All adopted animals are required to be spayed or neutered by VA Code Section 3.1-796.126:3 at the adopters expense. Also, VA Code Section 3.1-796.97:1 requires all owners of a domesticated dog or cat to have the animal vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian when the animal reaches the age of 4 months.
- Wise County ordinance requires all dogs kept in Wise County to have a County Dog license. County Dog licenses can be purchased at the Wise County Treasurers Office in the County Courthouse. Click here for more information.
